Becoming Jane is a biopic film about the life of British writer, Jane Austen (1775-1817), specifically, the semi-fictional account of her romance with Tom LeFroy and its impact on her career.
I recommend the movie for a few reasons:
1. Anne Hathaway was stunning and thoroughly convincing. I liked her more than I expected.
2. James McAvoy was utterly delectable. His wit and roguish charm are infectious. I look forward to his upcoming work. (I first saw him on screen, playing the role of Dr. Nicholas Garrigan in The Last King of Scotland, a film I also strongly recommend if you aren't too queasy.)
3. The supporting cast (which includes Maggie Smith and Julie Walters, both of Harry Potter fame) was also quite strong, as was the music.
4. It was endearingly romantic, though not without its bittersweet moments. The chemistry between Hathaway and McAvoy was palpable and made for a very engaging love affair.
5. The movie transported me to another time and made me long to reread Austen's books.

Being a bit of an Anglophile, all I need to see is the poster to know that I'll probably like it.
Upstairs, Downstairs; Charles Dickens; Jane Austin; Duchess of Duke Street; Anthony Trollope; Wives & Daughters... LOVE that BBC Masterpiece Theater stuff! Rich people, pretty dresses, servants... bring it on, baby.
Very fond memories of the Duchess of Duke Street!
