the gift

Max was the adorable, sweet, fluffy, orange cat who lived with my husband for all of his 19 years. I was fortunate to get to know him during the last year of his life, in 2003. Losing his dear companion, Max, was a terrible blow to Alex, and he still grieves the loss.

Yesterday, I surprised my husband with a painted portrait of Max, which I commissioned from Portland artist, Darlene Pucillo. Using an old photo, she created this amazing likeness of Max-cat:

Needless to say, Alex was deeply moved. It was a marvelous success. I am very pleased that it turned out so well and that Alex received it so favorably.

If you have a pet, living or not, whom you'd like commemorated, I highly recommend Pucillo's work. For $55 plus shipping, (and this is a real bargain!), you can have your own 8 x 8" pet portrait, simply by mailing or emailing her a photograph of your loved one. I'm thinking of getting one done of our Kitter.

Nancy, that is such a sweet gift you gave to Alex. Having experienced a deep love for my ole boy Freddie for 16 years, I completely understand how special your gift was! And $55 is a steal! Maybe I'll contact her too.
