- Tamboura CD. This one's my favorite. The tamboura is a long-necked Indian lute, which, when plucked in a particular, slow, quiet manner, creates this amazingly meditative, almost trance-like, soft "buzzing" or "humming" sound. "The tamboura, one of India's ancient stringed instruments, resonates with the sound of Om, from which all sound arises. The peaceful drone of the tamboura provides a soothing focus that stills the mind during meditation. " (Siddha Yoga Bookstore) I use my Tamboura CD to meditate and, often, to fall asleep at night.
- My "Lake Voices" radio station on Pandora is great for being in a meditative space or for just relaxing. It plays lots of soft instrumental music that is New Age-y and mellow. I like the songs with ocean waves and dolphin/whale sounds. [If you use Pandora, you can create your own station using the song "Lake Voices."]
- Siddha Yoga Meditation Instruction CD by Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. "These instructions given by Gurumayi lead you gently and naturally into meditation. She introduces techniques for sitting, yogic breathing, and mantra repetition. The recording includes two separate meditation sessions, each with the tamboura accompaniment." (Siddha Yoga Bookstore) This one is on my wish list. I've listened to it in Siddha Yoga Centers, and I have found it immensely helpful for focusing on meditation, but I have not yet purchased a copy for my personal use.

meditative media
Yesterday Jayne Dough posted an entry on her blog about meditation tapes. It got me thinking about the various media I use for meditation/relaxation and I thought I'd list some of my own resources here.

I've got that meditation CD by Gurumayi. The first time I heard it, I was playing it in my room whilst doing housework (I know, a strange combination!), and my experience was that I could actually feel Gurumayi's energy in the room, and I felt a strong pull to sit down and meditate, so that's what I did.
