mounds of manuals

We own a LOT of stuff! And we've got the documentation to prove it, specifically, in the form of owner's manuals, instruction sheets, warranties, and other printed materials related to our belongings. Tons of it.

While excavating Alex's office, in our continuing preparation to move, we came across a mountain of owner's manuals and such. As the perennial organizer, of course, I had to take the challenge and turn it into a proper organizing project. Lucky for me, I had a head start thanks to my husband's previous attempt at making order of the mass of papers. (A valiant, albeit abandoned, effort on his part, for which he deserves credit.)

Based on his original plan, I put each manual (or other such material), including my own contributions from my files, into individual plastic sheet protectors, which I then categorized and placed into binders. The result of this (wonderfully) A-type activity was 6 large binders with a total of, approximately, 150 or more individual items. (See picture for evidence.) A sampling of categories includes: cameras, phones, furniture, outdoor/camping gear, health/personal care, tools, kitchen, appliances, fixtures, decorations, and household miscellaneous.

Whew! We are, without a doubt (not that there ever was one), full-fledged American consumers. Oh, the shame!

This is what I need to do--now if I could just find the time to do it. Everything is just piled in a drawer and has gotten worse since we started getting so many toys and gadgets for the kids. I'm envious that you have yours all organized like that. I truly am an organizer by nature, but you maybe would not know it these days. I have binders for the kids' school and our cars, so maybe one day I can accomplish this task too!! Maybe only in my dreams.
