I had a little of both Wednesday evening, with a friend who invited me over for tea. Having not seen her since my wedding in June, I was grateful for the chance to catch up and just talk. We shared about Siddha Yoga, 12-step programs, organizing, and more. Honestly, I don't have a plethora of people in my life with whom I feel comfortable to be be "real," so it was quite nice to reconnect with her on a heart level. I truly value these opportunities, infrequent as they are.
I brought the cheese, blackberries, and Toblerone. She provided the homemade chai, Indian rice, Masala burgers, and other delectables. For a humble assortment of "nibblies," it turned out to be quite the feast. Yum. But the piece de resistance was the dessert: an Indian ice cream called kulfi. It looks like this:

Truly luscious, it is made with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, heavy cream, ground pistachio nuts, and ground cardamom (giving it its distinctive Indian flavor). Chow.com describes it well, as having a "slightly chewy texture and a sweet, creamy taste." Lucky for me, she sent me home with two more servings.
If you wish to try it yourself, you'll find the recipe here. Served best with friends and other dear ones.
