mixed media workshop

I attended the most amazing art workshop this past weekend. Artist Susan Reed was our instructor and she was both inspiring and encouraging. We used painting, drawing, and collage to create our works of art. As I rarely paint or draw (I mostly do collage with paper and found objects), it was quite challenging and stretched my creative abilities. But I was extremely happy with both the process and the products of the workshop. Below are some photos of the workshop itself, as well as images of the pieces I made.

My work area.

My instructor's work area.

Some of my fellow artists.

My instructor, Susan Reed (in pink).

This 8" x 8" piece is one of the two smallest works of art I created during the workshop. This is a huge departure from the 2.5" x 3.5" art cards I usually make! Here I started with a painted background, then added various papers and tissues as well as black ink. It's for sale for $20.

The background here is layered sewing pattern paper. I drew that pear on a piece of watercolor paper, added some colored papers, cut it out, and pasted it on this canvas. The text in the upper right corner is a page from an antique Japanese book. Not for sale.

The tea bag background was made about a year ago, but I was inspired by the workshop to complete it, using papers and paint. For sale, $20.

One of my best works from this workshop, I think. Again, I used a variety of papers, paint, and ink on this piece. In addition, I included a photo transfer of an elephant in the lower left corner (faintly outlined in blue). For sale, $30.

This one is for fun. To some, it suggests a series of hills. Paint, paper, ink. For sale, $25.

The largest piece I worked on during the workshop, and thus the most challenging for me. It is unfinished, and unfortunately I am not entirely happy with it.

Check back for forthcoming mixed media pieces that expand the bounds of my art cards.

I LOVE THIS POST!!!!

It's great to see the photos of the whole thing; fun and visually pleasing, too.

The "series of hills," to me, looked like one person in bed (black circle is head/face) and a 2nd person leaping into bed with the first (blue stripes = bed's headboard)

I LOVE to hear people's responses, reactions, and interpretations of my work. If you can see something in or create some meaning about any of my pieces, then I feel I've achieved some degree of success. (That being said, I guess I should give my "Simpsons" art card a C rather than a D.
