As of today, I have sold 16 art cards plus one that was framed. Not the sell-out I hoped for...yet...but there's still a month to go.
Here's the artist statement that accompanies my display:
NANCY ARNOLD HARRIS
I strongly believe that art is a collaborative endeavor between the artist and the viewer. Meaning is created by the interaction of the work of art and the one observing it. In my collages, this is enhanced by the fact that my art is entirely abstract, thus leaving interpretation largely to the viewer.
Two influences guide me in creating my collages. Primarily, I let my materials speak to me. I enjoy experimenting with materials, which include paper, paint, and found objects, among other odd elements such as tea bags and rusty hardware. Secondarily, I follow my instincts, which have been influenced by my training as an art historian as well as the instruction I have received in mixed media collage. Ultimately, I love the challenge of solving the puzzle that each new piece presents, working out the right arrangement of materials, colors, textures, and composition.
I create abstract mixed media collages for the simple reason that I feel compelled to, and it brings me great joy. It is my desire that your enjoyment of my art matches the pleasure I experience in making it.
The majority of my collages are ACEOs (Art Cards, Editions & Originals), which are exactly 2.5” x 3.5.” (The difference between ACEOs and Artist Trading Cards is that ACEOs are bought and sold, whereas ATCs are traded.)
