Mod Squade reunion

Catching up with old friends can be very satisfying, as it was for me last night when Alex and I joined 7 of our old buddies from The Mod Squade (a sort of support network, basically). The evening was really a reunion, as many of us had not seen each other for quite some time. Thanks to Sara, visiting from D.C., for being the catalyst for the get-together.We started off at a Mexican restaurant, but when we got too rowdy (we were ruining numerous romantic dates!) we moved on to Carrows, where we were given quite a bit more elbow room, so to speak. It was, undoubtedly, a festive and spirited gathering. The conversation was encyclopedic: we talked of politics, love, sex, law, academics, gender, surgeries, friends, dreams, chocolate, and, well, you get the idea. Good friends do make life more enjoyable. It's good to be reminded of that from time to time.

That reminds me of my strongest impression from your wedding rehearsal dinner: you (two) have smart friends.

I want more smart friends. Friends who are interested in exploring topics in a multifaceted way (business/consumer, female/male, straight/bi/gay/trans), who know about interesting & varied things, who really "get it" that real world problems are complicated (ie, it's not just that pedophiles are "sick" and "bad" but that it's a real challenge because there are basically 0 successful treatment models for them), who are really interested in learning and exploring well below the surface of things.

A few days ago I started thinking about this. It's up to me to seek out, to carve out room to include the kind of people I want more of in my life: a few friends who are financially well off (such that they make investment decisions), a few friends who are smart (about things other than 12 Step), a few friends who are ahead of me in social & life skills (the easiest category of all), and a few friends who are spiritually impressive.

It will help when I start attending various types of social groups again. (I've been delaying that until my official 1 yr new-to-me Relationship Moratorium ends.) I've also been acting more gregariously in public, especially at performances and real estate venues.

9/2/10 I'm perusing your non-art posts now and I'm struck by the solo photo of you in this post. I believe it's my favorite of you, ever.
