This was a special Valentine's Day for Alex and me because it was the one year anniversary of our engagement. So Alex surprised me by taking me to dinner then to a hotel to escape the computer, phone, video games and other household distractions just for one night.

I'm getting the impression that marriage is really good for Alex. That comment is not to ignore you, of course, it's just that you're a chick and chicks generally dig stuff like that. But, reading between the lines, I get the impression that he's really happy with this new form of relationship with you.
He really never was serious about the others he dated the way he was with you, right off the bat.

I greatly appreciate that feedback. I'd also like to think that marriage is good for him (and me). It has definitely strengthened our relationship.
