Mediterranean Mosaic: Palermo

I wasn't terribly enchanted with Palermo, Sicily, I'm sad to say. Our brief visit on June 6, 2008 didn't leave me with the best impression, although I know it's unwise to make a judgment based on such a short amount of time.

However, despite its filth and franticness, Chris and I enjoyed a few hours exploring the city on our own. We turned down a side street to find a thriving local market with booths selling such items as fruit, meat, electronic gadgets, knives, sundries, and more.

We did take a short bus tour of the city and one stop brought us to this massive ficus (I think that's the kind of tree it is), which dwarfs my otherwise towering brother, below:
