It's July 4th and I am sitting here at home with all the windows and doors closed (sweltering, of course), looking out at a sky blanketed with smoke. The Gap fire, which started July 1st, continues to burn steadily closer, having consumed about 5400 acres thus far. Evacuation warnings and orders continue to roll out. We are less than .1 miles away from an area that is under an evacuation warning, so we pretty much consider ourselves under warning as well. We've packed almost everything we would want to take with us in the event that we were under a mandatory evacuation. Some is already loaded into the vehicles. The rest waits by the door. (Except for my computer, of course.) Naturally, we're rather nervous, but remain optimistic. I'll provide updates as the event develops.

I hope you guys don't have to leave, because that would mean the fire was headed toward your place, but if it does, get the heck out of there. Must be hard trying to get everything ready to go. I feel like everything we have is important, but in that kind of situation, you do what you can.
Best of luck.
